National Child Identification Program

Child Identification Kits

During the 87th Legislative Session, I led the charge to include funding in our budget to provide no-ink fingerprinting kits for every student in Texas from kindergarten to 7th grade. We received matching funds from the NFL for the effort.

The kits will be sent home next spring, and there will not be any state records kept of the fingerprints. Parents will have their children’s fingerprints for safekeeping, and God-willing, they’ll never be needed.

Too often, children are abducted, and these kits might be the difference between tragedy and a swift return. Missing children are a national crisis and we must do everything we can to keep Texas children safe.

I want to thank the NFL for partnering with us on this effort. Texas is the largest state to distribute these kits, and I hope that our program is a model for other states to implement.

For my efforts, I was honored with the Jerry Kramer NFL Trailblazer Award. Attorney General Ken Paxton and Sen. Donna Campbell, R-New Braunfels received awards as well.
