About

Dan Patrick is a preeminent voice for principled conservative policies both in Texas and across the nation. After serving 8 years in the Texas Senate, including as the Chair of the Senate Committee on Public Education, Dan Patrick was first elected Lt. Governor of Texas in 2014 and then re-elected in 2018 and 2022.

TEXAS CONSERVATIVE LEADER

Lt. Governor Patrick is a leader in the fight to protect liberty, lower property and business taxes, create jobs and grow our economy, strengthen our electrical grid by adding reliable dispatchable power, provide a high-quality education for all, secure our border, support law enforcement, and protect life, the Second Amendment, and religious liberty.

A CHRISTIAN FIRST, CONSERVATIVE SECOND, AND REPUBLICAN THIRD

Lt. Governor Patrick added In God We Trust over the dais in the Senate Chamber, put ‘Under God’ in the Texas Pledge of Allegiance, and was a co-founder of the largest prison seminary in the world, right here in Texas. He wrote a Christian book on the Bible, produced an award-winning Christian film and, in 2025, passed legislation to put the Ten Commandments and prayer time back in public schools.

PRESIDENTIAL APPOINTMENT

In 2025, President Donald J. Trump named Lt. Governor Patrick to chair his important Presidential Commission on Religious Liberty. The Commission will deliver recommendations to preserve and expand religious liberty in our country to President Trump.

FIGHTER FOR PROPERTY TAX RELIEF

Lt. Governor Patrick has been the leader in cutting property taxes in Texas. In 2023, he delivered the largest property tax cut in history, $18 billion, benefiting homeowners and businesses.

CHAMPION OF THE HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION

When Lt. Governor Patrick was elected in 2015, the Homestead Exemption was only $15,000. Since then, he succeeded in increasing the Homestead Exemption to $200,000 for seniors and $140,000 for homeowners under 65. The increased Homestead Exemptions eliminated school property taxes forever for the average senior homeowner and cut taxes by nearly 50% for homeowners under 65. He has pledged to eliminate school property taxes for the average homeowner in the next two legislative sessions.

THE LEADER IN ENDING WOKE POLICIES IN TEXAS

Lt. Governor Patrick led the Texas Senate in passing legislation to end the teaching of critical race theory in public schools, abolish discriminatory DEI policies in our universities, enact needed reforms on tenure, and eliminate liberal senate faculties from controlling Texas universities. Ahead of his time, he passed the first “bathroom bill” in 2017, to keep men out of women’s bathrooms. The Texas House finally passed the bill in 2025, and it was signed into law.

CHAMPION OF THE SECOND AMENDMENT

Lt. Governor Patrick is a staunch supporter of the Second Amendment, passing campus carry, open carry, and constitutional carry in Texas.

CHAMPION FOR LIFE

He has been a champion for saving nearly 300,000 babies with the passage of his Sonogram Bill in 2011. He passed the Heartbeat Bill in 2023, virtually eliminating abortions in Texas even before Roe v. Wade was overturned.

LEADER IN EDUCATION REFORM

Lt. Governor Patrick led the charge to pass the largest school choice program launch in American history. He also passed the largest pay raise for Texas teachers in history, the first cost-of-living adjustment for retired teachers and has increased state funding for public education to record levels.

A STUDENT OF HISTORY.   REMEMBER THE ALAMO!

Lt. Governor Patrick has visited battlefields across America and the world, from Normandy to Gettysburg, and many more. Patrick has visited countless churches around the world, and he has an authentic signature from every U.S. President.

However, his true love of history is Texas. He is leading the revitalization of the Alamo to be the finest historical site in the nation.

Lt. Governor Patrick has an extensive personal collection of Alamo history, including signatures of Crockett, Bowie, Travis, Austin, and Houston, a cannonball from the battle, and an incredible diorama he commissioned. All are on display at his Capitol office.

FANS AND CRITICS AGREE

Lt. Governor Patrick has been called by critics and supporters the “most effective Lt. Governor in Texas history” and has presided over the most conservative and productive legislative sessions ever. He gives credit to the Senators for any success attributed to him. “They do the long and hard work of passing legislation. My job is to lead them to pass public policy supported by the majority of Texas voters,” says Patrick.

A LITTLE BACKGROUND

Before being elected Lt. Governor, he spent nearly 50 years in the media as a television anchor, conservative talk show host, and successful radio station owner, putting a then-unknown Rush Limbaugh on the air in Houston in 1988, before any other major market in the country.

HELPING THOSE IN NEED

Lt. Governor Patrick is heavily involved in his community, raising over $25 million for children with disabilities. After the October 7 attack on Israel, he bought $6 million in Israeli bonds, and after the assassination of Charlie Kirk, donated $1 million to Turning Point USA to help put a chapter on every high school and college campus in Texas.

THE FAMILY

Lt. Governor Patrick and his wife, Jan, a former schoolteacher, will celebrate 51 years of marriage this year. They are the proud parents of two children: Ryan, a former state prosecutor, judge, and U.S. Attorney, and daughter Shane, a speech therapist and registered nurse. They have a great daughter-in-law and son-in-law and are proud grandparents to eight grandchildren.
