Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick Statement Applauding the Texas Senate for Advancing Majority of Second Special Session Bills

AUSTIN – Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick issued the following statement today, applauding the Texas Senate for advancing the majority of Second Special Session Bills on Gov. Abbott’s call:

“The Senate passed all 18 bills on Gov. Abbott’s call in the first special session and is on track to do it again. The Texas Senate once again proved we can deliver real results for the people of Texas. Last night and today, we passed nearly all of the bills on Gov. Abbott’s call—many with strong bipartisan support—covering critical priorities including legislation for disaster preparedness and July 4th flood recovery, protecting women’s spaces, banning taxpayer-funded lobbying, property tax relief, and more.

“I am proud of the Senators for their hard work and commitment to moving these bills forward. Finally, the House Democrats have shown up. I look forward to receiving legislation from the House in the coming days. Texans expect their elected officials to stay in the state and get the job done, rather than fleeing to other states just because they oppose a particular bill.

“The Senate will continue to advance the people’s business, no matter how many special sessions it takes.”

The four remaining bills that have not yet passed the Senate will begin in the House and then proceed to the Senate. These bills are SB 4: Redistricting, SB 7: Protecting Unborn Children, SB 9: Eliminating the STAAR Test, and SB 17: State Judicial Omnibus Package.
