AUSTIN – Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick issued this statement today following the passage of Senate Bill 33, Stopping Taxpayer-Funded Abortion Travel, by Sen. Donna Campbell, R-New Braunfels, on second reading (final passage on third reading tomorrow):
“Since 2021, abortions in Texas have essentially ground to a halt. A number of rogue, liberal cities have done everything in their power to skirt state law, including paying for out-of-state travel for abortions on-demand outside Texas. This is unacceptable.
“The Senate’s passage of SB 33 draws a line in the sand, prohibiting these cities from using taxpayer dollars to fund abortion-related travel to circumvent state law. I thank Sen. Campbell for her leadership on this bill to protect life in Texas.”
Senate Bill 33, by Sen. Donna Campbell, prohibits governmental entities from funding any type of abortion service, including travel or other logistics. SB 33 also allows the attorney general or Texas residents to bring legal action against any party violating or seeking to violate these provisions.
