Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick: Statement on the Passage of Senate Bill 16 – Stopping Non-Citizens from Voting

AUSTIN – Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick issued this statement today following the passage of Senate Bill 16, Stopping Non-Citizens from Voting, on second reading (final passage on third reading later today), by Sen. Bryan Hughes, R-Tyler:

“Maintaining the integrity of Texas’ elections has been a top priority of mine since I was elected to the Texas Senate and throughout my tenure as Lt. Governor. SB 16 is a priority because Texans must have confidence in the outcome of every single election in our state. This issue is not controversial; only citizens should vote in Texas elections. I thank Sen. Hughes for his continued leadership in ensuring Texas elections are more secure than ever.”

Senate Bill 16, by Sen. Bryan Hughes, would require all voters to provide proof of citizenship to register to vote in Texas elections.
