Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick Announces Appointments to the Windstorm Insurance Legislative Oversight Board



 

AUSTIN – Today, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick announced the appointment of Sen. Charles Schwertner, R-Georgetown, as Co-Chair, Sen. Brandon Creighton, R-Conroe, Sen. Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa, D-McAllen, and Sen. Lois Kolkhorst, R-Brenham, to the Windstorm Insurance Legislative Oversight Board. Upon making the appointments, Lt. Gov. Patrick issued the following statement:

“Careful oversight of the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (TWIA) is crucial for our vibrant coastal communities, and I am confident these senators will focus their attention on the committee’s important work.”

Charles Schwertner, of Georgetown, is the State Senator for District 5. Schwertner serves as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Business and Commerce and Chairman of the Sunset Advisory Commission. Schwertner is a practicing orthopedic surgeon, treating thousands of patients each year.

Sen. Brandon Creighton, of Conroe, currently serves as the State Senator for District 4, and is the Chairman of the Senate Committees on Education and Higher Education. Previously, he served in the Texas House of Representatives.

Lois Kolkhorst, of Brenham, is the State Senator for District 18. She serves as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health and Human Services. She previously served 7 terms in the Texas House of Representatives.

Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa, of McAllen, is the State Senator for District 20. He is a Marine’s Marine and represents a large portion of our southern border. Previously, he served in the Texas House of Representatives.

The Windstorm Insurance Legislative Oversight Board works with the Texas Department of Insurance on issues relating to windstorm insurance, adequacy of rates, operation of the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (TWIA), and availability of coverage. The board will analyze and identify issues and provide recommendations for the legislature to act on.
