Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick: Statement on the Signing of Senate Bill 1

TYLER – Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick issued this statement today following Gov. Greg Abbott signing Senate Bill 1, the Election Integrity Bill, by Sen. Bryan Hughes, R-Mineola:

“Maintaining the integrity of Texas’ elections has been a top priority of mine since I was elected to the Texas Senate and throughout my tenure as Lt. Governor. I am so proud today that Gov. Abbott has signed Senate Bill 1 into law. The Texas House Democrats attempted to block this bill by walking out at the end of the 87th Regular Session, and did the same by taking prolonged vacations to Washington D.C. and Europe during the First Called Special Session. They failed because voters demanded secure elections and gave us a clear mandate to pass election integrity legislation in Austin.

“The Election integrity Bill is one of the conservative cornerstones that has made the 87th Legislative Session my most successful to date. By making it easier to vote and harder to cheat, we have dramatically improved elections across Texas. I will not stop looking for ways to make our elections more secure, because even a single fraudulent vote is one too many. The signing of this bill caps off the best week for common sense conservative legislation in Texas.”
