AUSTIN – Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick announced today that his longtime Chief of Staff, Logan Spence, is stepping aside to enter the private sector. He will be replaced by the lieutenant governor’s current General Counsel, Darrell D. Dávila, effective April 2.

“Logan has been at my side during my entire tenure in public office. He is a focused legislative strategist and public policy expert who has not only served me well, he has served the people of Texas well. I am enormously grateful for his leadership, his loyalty and his commitment to conservative principles and values. He has been essential in helping me move our conservative agenda forward and I will miss him.

“Since my first day as lieutenant governor, Darrell has been a key player on my senior leadership team where he brings a wealth of experience from both inside and outside state government. I am very proud of having the best policy team in the Capitol and I am confident that Darrell’s leadership as my new chief of staff will ensure that we continue to move forward with conservative policies that strengthen our state and improve the lives of the people of Texas,” said Lt. Gov. Patrick.

“Working for Dan Patrick over the last 11 years has been the highlight of my career. The lieutenant governor’s faith and principles are genuine and they inspire those around him to eagerly join him in public service. I have been very blessed to get to know him and his family and to serve at his side for the people of Texas,” said Spence.

“I am honored by the confidence the lieutenant governor has placed in me and consider it a high privilege to serve as his chief of staff. I look forward to leading our team of policy experts and professionals who are dedicated public servants committed to making Texas the best state in the nation and the model of freedom and prosperity,” Dávila said.

Dávila joined Lt. Gov. Patrick’s administration in January 2015 as general counsel. In addition to his role as chief legal counsel and ethics advisor, he also advises the lieutenant governor on state affairs policy and economic development.

Dávila previously served as director of governmental appointments and counsel for legal and judicial appointments for Gov. Rick Perry. Prior to that, he was an assistant district attorney and legislative liaison for the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office in Fort Worth where he tried over 100 jury trials as a front-line prosecutor of organized crime, homicide, and crimes against children cases. He began his career as a civil litigation attorney in Dallas. A native of Corpus Christi, Dávila received a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Texas A&M University and a law degree from the University of Texas School of Law.
