Campbell Appointed to Senate Finance Committee
AUSTIN – Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick appointed Sen. Brian Birdwell, R-Granbury, Chair of the Natural Resources and Economic Development Committee today and named Sen. Donna Campbell, R-New Braunfels, to the Senate Finance Committee.
“Sen. Birdwell is a proven and respected conservative leader who will bring his no-nonsense approach to the important work of the Natural Resources and Economic Development Committee. I trust Brian to move our conservative agenda forward and ensure that our state continues to set the standard for the rest of America on these critical issues.”
Sen. Birdwell is replacing Sen. Craig Estes, R-Wichita Falls, who won’t be returning in 2019. As he has done in the past, the lieutenant governor is replacing committee chairs who will not serve in the upcoming legislative session so that the interim work of the committees can continue to move forward. The lieutenant governor will appoint Sen. Birdwell’s replacement as Chair of the Senate Nominations Committee in the coming months. Sen. Birdwell also chairs the Senate Sunset Committee whose committee work will be completed by early 2019.
In appointing Sen. Campbell to the Senate Finance Committee, Lt. Gov. Patrick said:
“Last month I removed Sen. Carlos Uresti, D-San Antonio, from the Senate Finance Committee and I have asked Sen. Campbell to take his place. Sen. Campbell is a hard-working conservative leader who will take a principled approach to managing Texas’ $200 billion-plus budget. I believe it is important that San Antonio be represented on Senate Finance and Donna is the obvious choice.”
