News from Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick

In the 2017 Texas Legislature, we’re acting swiftly on a conservative agenda that upholds the Texas values you elected me to protect. Senate Bill 4 – Sanctuary Cities, by Senator Charles Perry, (R-Lubbock) was voted on and passed this past week in the State Senate. Another priority, Ethics Reform, Senate Bill 14, by Senator Van Taylor, R-Plano was also voted on and passed unanimously.

This Sanctuary Cities legislation will ensure that no city in Texas will be allowed to ignore the law. We must do everything we can to keep our law enforcement accountable and our communities safe. It is my goal to end this practice once and for all this session – and I believe this legislation will be a model for the rest of the country to follow.

The Ethics Reform legislation does four key things to ensure that legislators in Texas are held to a standard that inspires the public’s trust in a transparent and ethically principled manner. Learn more about the four pillars of this reform here.

On Thursday, I spoke to the Texas Business Leadership Council (TBLC) about School Choice and the importance of ensuring that every parent can choose the best school for their child. Watch my brief address after speaking to TBLC:

I appreciate the support of TBLC on this important issue. Last week, Senate Bill 3 – School Choice, by Senator Larry Taylor, (R-Friendswood), was referred to the Committee on Education. I encourage you to contact your legislator to tell them that you support this critical legislation.

Later in the week, I sat down with Trey Blocker who has launched a new weekly podcast on Texas legislative issues. I think it will interest you. Listen to the show here.
