Lt. Governor Patrick Statement on the Property Tax Reform & Relief Act of 2017 Bill Filing

AUSTIN – Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick issued this statement today following the pre-filing of Senate Bill 2 (SB2 – the Property Tax Reform & Relief Act of 2017) by Chairman Paul Bettencourt, Select Senate Committee on Property Tax Reform & Relief, and Senators Brandon Creighton, Kelly Hancock and Van Taylor:

“Texans pay the sixth-highest property tax in the nation (property taxes paid as a percentage of home value) and Texans have told us loud and clear that common-sense property tax reform legislation is long overdue. Property taxes are driving people out of their homes and hampering business expansion and growth. It’s time for this to stop.

“I strongly support SB 2 and commend Chairman Bettencourt for filing this important bill and for his leadership and that of the Select Committee on this issue.”
