Lt. Governor Patrick on Funeral of Former Senator Chris Harris

AUSTIN – Former State Senator Chris Harris of Arlington was a dedicated public servant with a 28-year career as a state lawmaker. He had a reputation of being tough and tenacious in representing his district and his conservative values. He was also known for his sense of humor on and off the Senate floor and his willingness to help other members whenever he could. He may have been viewed as having a tough persona to some, but for those of us privileged to know him personally, he was a genuine person with a ready smile and good heart. If he gave you his word you could put it in the bank.

As a freshman in 2007 Senator Harris was very kind to me and tried to help me learn the ropes as much as any member. He gave me good council and was always there to help me iron out the rough spots that all freshman members have.

He served with distinction and made a Texas a better place for all. He will be missed by his family, friends, fellow members and those he represented.

Senator Harris’ funeral is today at 2 p.m. at the Crossroads Christian Church in Grand Prairie.
