Lt. Governor Dan Patrick Statement on Obama’s Energy Regulations

AUSTIN – Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick made the following statement regarding President Obama’s ‘Clean Power Plan’:

“On Monday, President Obama announced his ‘Clean Power Plan,’ which will require a significant reduction in carbon emissions across the nation. During his speech he stated, ‘No challenge poses a greater threat to our future and future generations, than a changing climate.’

“I find that statement incredible. The greatest threat to America is terrorist attacks in our home land and an open border that continues to allow potential terrorists and criminal gangs to enter our country illegally.

“Obama’s plan will negatively impact Texas, add an unnecessary drain on our energy grid, and drive up the cost of electricity, which will negatively impact our economy. Instead of a more thoughtful review of the issue, our president insists on rushing ahead with his liberal plan to make environmentalists happy.

“Furthermore, the president has completely ignored the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent ruling in Michigan v Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), in which it was decided that EPA failed to consider cost in implementing the power plant rules.

“The president cannot ignore the Supreme Court’s decision and the cost of his plan. It’s impact on our citizens and businesses across the country will be detrimental.

“As Lt. Governor, I will continue to push back against this dangerous plan and the EPA.”
