Lt. Governor Patrick Makes a Statement on Senate Resolution

AUSTIN – “I am proud to add my support to that of twenty Republican senators who approved Senate Resolution 1028 as a unified show of support of traditional marriage between a man and a woman.

“This effort mirrors the will of 76% of Texas voters who previously voted to make this definition a part of the state constitution, in 2005.

“Earlier this session, the Texas Senate took a similar lead passing legislation such as the ‘Pastor Protection’ bill, only to see other bills blocked.

“The U.S. Supreme Court is currently reviewing the issue of same-sex marriage which I and the State of Texas have consistently opposed.”
