Lt. Governor Patrick on Passage of “Campus Carry” Gun Bill



 

AUSTIN – After failing to pass for several legislative sessions, Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick applauded Senator Brian Birdwell’s leadership to advance “campus carry” Senate Bill 11 (SB 11) with a vote of 20 -11.

SB 11 – Birdwell proposes the following:

  • Relating to the carrying of handguns on the campuses of and certain other locations associated with institutions of higher education.

“The Texas Senate today, preliminarily passed the third bill that expands and protects Second Amendment Right legislation in a historic way. With the passage of Senate Bill 17 (SB 17) by Sen. Craig Estes, Senate Bill 273 (SB 273) by Sen. Donna Campbell and SB 11 by Sen. Birdwell, the Texas Senate sends a clear message, that our Second Amendment Right remains strong,” said Patrick.

Lt. Governor Patrick also applauds the final passage of the following related bills:

SB 17 – Estes:

  • Relating to the authority of a person who is licensed to carry a handgun to openly carry a holstered handgun; creating a criminal offense; providing penalties.

SB 273 – Campbell:

  • Relating to certain offenses relating to carrying concealed handguns on property owned or leased by a governmental entity; providing a civil penalty.
